FLU – Don’t take a chance

Because of people’s understandable concerns about Coronavirus, we are experiencing exceptionally high demand for the flu “jab” this year.

In line with National guidance, we are vaccinating the patients we know may be most at risk and have detailed plans to ensure the safety of patients and staff coming for their flu jab. We are using our clinical expertise to deliver the vaccine as safely and efficiently as possible in a clinic environment, making sure your exposure to any potential infection is minimised, and social distancing is preserved.

Vaccines for this autumn are being delivered from the manufacturers in stages, and we will be contacting eligible patients as soon as we can to book them an early appointment, prioritising those who are most at risk from complications of flu and the Covid-19 virus.

If you have been invited to have a flu jab at our next major clinic on November 7, we have drawn up a process to make attending the surgery as safe as possible for you and our staff. You can read about it HERE. Please only attend this clinic if you have received a specific invitation - we will only have enough vaccine available on the day for pre-booked patients.

Remember, whatever happens with Covid-19, the flu can still be a very serious illness for people at risk – especially older people, pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems, or those suffering from long term conditions like diabetes, heart failure, high blood pressure and so on. The effects of getting Coronavirus before or after having the flu aren’t fully known, but it’s important to do all you can to minimise your risk by protecting yourself from the flu as early as you can.

Please note the Government has decided that only people with a pre-existing health condition (such as diabetes or immune system deficiencies) in the 50-64-year old age group will be vaccinated at this stage, and no appointments for others in this age group will be offered until later in November/ December. We will invite you for a vaccination if you are eligible, and will update this website when we know more.
