WE ARE ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS - see "How to register with the surgery"

Gold Street Surgery will shortly be installing a new, improved text appointment reminder and information service. This will enable the surgery to send you reminders and invitations for health reviews and promotions as well as reminders for any appointments you've booked. To make the best use of this, it is important that we have your up-to-date mobile phone details and your consent. If you've changed your mobile phone number please let us know as soon as possible. If you would like to opt out of receiving text messages for any reason, please let us know.

Don't be caught out by the flu this winter! Gold Street Surgery is inviting all potentially vulnerable adult patients to have a free flu jab. You are eligible to receive a free flu jab if you:

  •  are 65 years of age or over
  • are pregnant
  • have certain long-term medical conditions
  • are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility
  • receive a carer's allowance, or you are the main Carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill
  • many health and social care staff caring directly for vulnerable people

The flu vaccine is also free on the NHS for:

  •  children over the age of six months with a long-term health condition
  • all children aged two to nine (but not ten years or older) on 31 August 2018 (school age children will be offerred the vaccine in school not through their GP)

For people "at risk" flu can be much more than just a "bad cold". It can cause severe illness and even death among vulnerable groups including older people, pregnant women and people with a serious underlying health condition. Certain people are also more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as bronchitis and pneumonia. All these people are advised to have a flu jab each year.

This year, there is a special vaccine for people aged 65 years and older, designed to be more effective in older patients.

For otherwise healthy people, flu can still be very unpleasant, although most people will recover within a week or two. Please ask at the desk, or ring the surgery on 01799 525325 to book an appointment. If you are seeing your GP about something else, they can also give you your flu jab while you're there (please mention it at the start of your appointment!).

All patients are reminded that, for safety reasons, a minimum of THREE WORKING DAYS (72 hours - not including weekends or public holidays) is required for ALL orders of repeat medication. This ensures doctors and staff have adequate time to check the medication is right for you and is being safely used and prescribed. Also for safety reasons, we cannot accept medication orders by telephone. Please either fill in the order form on your prescription, fill in a form at the surgery or order online. Please order early for Christmas and New Year.

NHS staff should be able to come to work without fear of violence, abuse or harassment from patients or their relatives. In most cases, patients and their relatives are appreciative towards those who treat them but a minority of people are still abusive or violent towards staff. The NHS is committed to dealing with this problem and has a ‘zero tolerance’ attitude towards violence or aggressive behaviour. Gold Street Surgery unequivocally supports this policy. Offenders will usually be warned not to repeat their behaviour, but the surgery reserves the right to remove from its list without further warning repeat offenders or those who are physically or verbally violent towards staff, or who behave in a discriminatory manner..
